UCG Syngas Advantage - Eneabba Gas Limited - Energy Generation for Regional Infrastructure in Western Australia

Eneabba Gas

Environment Centauri 1 Power Station

The proposed Centauri 1 Power Station will be situated 8 kms east of the town of Dongara. The area is a predominately rural with a large agriculture community. Centauri 1 will be powered by natural gas.

Should UCG "Syngas" completely replace just half of the existing coal-fired electricity usage in W.A., the positive effect on the atmosphere would offset to around 6.5 million tonnes of abated CO2 emissions.

This equates to removing ALL passenger motor vehicles from Western Australia’s roads.

Centauri 1 is taking a long term perspective to W.A.’s energy industry. Coal is not environmentally-friendly, and as a result, will not remain the cheapest form of power generation.

The dramatic rise in the price of oil over the last thirty years had a significant impact on electricity generation in W.A. as the state’s three main power stations were all fuelled by oil. The change to coal fired generation was undertaken to help reduce the cost of electricity.

However, the impact of tax on Australian businesses, particularly those who are big users of power such as the mining industry, will be significant as fees for power increase to cover the carbon tax based on the amount of CO2 generated.
